Most dedicated chargers have their own app which is easy to download and use on modern smart phones. This will allow you to set up things charging schedules, check the current status of the vehicle on charge, and monitor average consumption. Find out more on the manufacturer website.
According to UK Smart EV regulations, home EV chargers must have Wi-Fi or some form of connectivity so the user can access advanced smart features, which can save EV owners significant money through charge scheduling and, in some cases, tariff integration
Wi-Fi-enabled EV chargers are not better than mobile-data-enabled chargers, and it simply depends on your personal circumstances and choice which you choose. They both provide the same access to the unit’s designated smart features; it is simply the connection that is different.
If your Wi-Fi is patchy or your broadband signal is unstable in general, you should opt for a mobile EV charger in order to ensure a seamless connection – we’d recommend a charger with a sim card.
Some chargers are Wi-Fi only, some are SIM only and some are both Wi-Fi and SIM. It is important to check when you choose you charger.
You can use a regular EV charger with solar panel charging but you'll need a PV inverter unit that converts solar energy into electricity in order to start charging your EV with solar panels. Most installations will have an inverter as standard but it’s important to check. The inverter is what changes the current from DC to AC so you can use electricity from the panels to power your home and devices
Secondly, solar panels generate power during daylight hours (when we get more sun), but most people charge their electric car overnight while they’re sleeping. So, if you want to charge your EV using that solar power at night, you’ll need a battery storage system that stores the energy generated throughout the day and then releases it when you need it - such as at night when charging your EV.
